Battery Containment / Storage Boxes

Battery Containment / Storage Boxes,

Safely storing used, damaged, leaking, or end-of-life batteries presents challenges for commercial, industrial, automotive, and equipment operations. Batteries can be heavy to handle, and leaking electrolyte can damage floors, equipment, and surrounding materials.

West Coast Spill Supplies offers large-capacity outdoor battery containment and storage boxes that provide secondary containment while keeping multiple batteries organized in one place.

Why Proper Battery Containment Matters

Lead-acid and other wet-cell batteries can contain corrosive electrolytes. If a battery casing cracks or degrades, a leak can spread beyond the immediate storage area. A containment box provides an additional barrier that can help protect floors, walls, shelving, equipment, and nearby electrical systems. It also creates a designated location for batteries awaiting recycling, disposal, servicing, or other handling.

Durable Polyethylene Construction

These battery boxes are made from high-strength polyethylene, which resists many corrosive substances, including the sulphuric acid commonly associated with lead-acid batteries. Their seamless construction provides a containment surface without joints through which liquids can readily escape. Unlike metal containers, polyethylene will not rust when exposed to moisture.

The removable, snug-fitting lid helps keep rain and debris out during outdoor storage. For additional support during use, we recommend placing a sheet of 3/8-inch plywood in the bottom of the box before loading batteries.

Easier Handling of Multiple Batteries

Four-way forklift access allows suitable material-handling equipment to approach and move the box from multiple directions. This is useful for facilities that regularly collect or move automotive, industrial, marine, or equipment batteries. Empty boxes can also be stacked when appropriate to make better use of storage space.

Applications for Battery Storage Boxes

Battery containment boxes are useful in automotive and truck service facilities, equipment maintenance operations, warehouses, recycling facilities, marine operations, industrial sites, construction and resource-industry sites, and fleet maintenance yards. Their large capacities are especially helpful where multiple batteries accumulate before servicing, recycling, or disposal.

They may also be suitable for other compatible materials requiring secondary containment, such as old paint cans. Confirm chemical compatibility and applicable storage requirements before placing other substances in a box.

Storage and Transportation Requirements

These boxes are intended for on-site storage and secondary containment. Shipping batteries may require different packaging depending on their chemistry, condition, quantity, and method of transport. Confirm the applicable dangerous-goods requirements before using any container to transport batteries, particularly damaged or defective batteries.
